Greater Omaha Community Action or (G.O.C.A.) was formed in 1965 to lead the Omaha area’s participation in the Federal Economic Opportunity (Anti-Poverty) Act. Then, G.O.C.A.’s task was to study and approve anti-poverty projects prepared by local agencies; and help channel Federal funds to get the projects operating. G.O.C.A. later developed into the full direct services agency that it is today, providing a variety of services to assist and strengthen families and the community. Greater Omaha Community Action currently serves families and individuals in Douglas and Sarpy Counties; and provides additional commodity supplemental food service to Dodge and Washington Counties. G.O.C.A. is part of a national network of 1000 Community Action Partnership agencies – America’s largest poverty fighting network.

G.O.C.A. has helped thousands of Metro Omaha area and surrounding rural area low-income residents over the past 40 years; and it is dedicated to continuing to serve this community.

The mission of Greater Omaha Community Action is to eliminate the causes of poverty by strengthening individuals, families, and communities through self-sufficiency initiatives in Douglas and Sarpy Counties.
